In Response to COVID-19 VMS Lessons Will Go 'All Virtual' Effective 3/17/20

The health and safety of our students and staff is of the utmost importance to us. We have made the decision to temporarily switch to all virtual music lessons effective Tuesday, March 17 until further notice. In the midst of challenging circumstances, we’re pleased to be able to offer stability and a convenient way to keep our VMS community engaged in some of the activities they enjoy most.

What Does this Mean to You? Instructions on Using Zoom

We will be offering Zoom, a video platform, for all students and teachers. All lessons will proceed as normal, just online instead of at the studio. Once it is your regularly scheduled lesson time, a “room” should be ready for you to meet with your teacher virtually

On the day of your lesson, you will receive an email serving as your lesson reminder. Within this email, you will find a link at the top. Click on the link, and it will allow you to join your lesson. If it is your first time using Zoom: The link will prompt you to download the Zoom application in order to continue. Once downloaded, the link from your email should take you to your lesson without any problems (you may just be prompted to enter your name!)

From mobile, click the app store option and download the app. From a desktop computer, simply allow the application to download and run the application to launch Zoom. After Zoom is all set and downloaded, joining your lesson will be as simple as clicking the link to the email. There isn’t even necessarily a need for you to create an account of your own! Our reception staff will also be available if you have any questions.

Recommendations for a Successful Online Lesson Experience

Find a quiet room to use as your lesson space.
Video lessons will work best on a laptop or tablet with video capability.
We encourage parents to accompany students if focus help is needed.
Have your instrument set up and ready to go in advance of your lesson starting.
For voice lessons - if you’re working on a specific song, have that song pulled up on your computer or smartphone in advance to accompany you during your lesson.
For drum lessons - don’t have a drumset at home? Don’t worry, you won’t miss a beat! We will provide alternative options around this to ensure a productive lesson.

We are excited to implement online lessons because we believe this provides some much-needed benefits to you and your family.
It offers continuity of activity which provides a sense of much-needed “normalcy” through this time of isolated uncertainty.
It keeps minds working on music concepts, providing enrichment and focus to help calm anxiety.

Just being able to simply log onto any device (computer, tablet or phone) in your own home offers the ultimate convenience for your entire family since you won’t have to organize and pack up everyone to travel to and from a sibling’s lesson!

Our staff will still be available during normal business hours to reach out with any questions, technical difficulties or concerns. We will be sure to keep you updated on any changes and new information as we all navigate this season together.
